Welcome to the first New Music Friday of 2021. It’s a pretty slow week, as many artists are gearing up for releases starting later this month. Let’s see if we can find some ear candy for you this weekend. Check out new releases from the following artists:
- Morgan Wallen – The sophomore release (a double album) from country’s most wanted artist touches on the ups and downs Wallen has been through over the past year or so with classic country sounds. Check out the track “Somebody’s Problem”
- Passenger – Nothing like a break-up album to kick off your year. Passenger (Mike Rosenberg) has written sad songs through stories of other people’s pain. Despite the content, it’s an easy listen of acoustic pop. Check out the track “Tip of My Tongue”
- The Lickerish Quartet – The second EP from the power-pop/prog band (with former members of Jellyfish) should find it on the shelf right next to the best of The Raspberries, ELO and other greats. Check out the track “Sovereignty Blues”
- Aaron Frazer – The Baltimore-born artist’s debut release is soul revivalism at its finest mixing doo-wop and Philly soul seamlessly. Co-written and produced by Black Keys band member Dan Auerbach. Check out the track “Bad News”
Today’s featured artist: Barry Gibb
Revisiting Bee Gees’ songs in Nashville with super-producer Dave Cobb behind the board is pure genius. The reinterpreted duets (with artists including Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile and Dolly to just mention a few) show the strength of the songs when they were originally written/performed and how much we should revisit them and appreciate the beauty of the Bee Gees.
