I’ve been waiting for this one - It’s New Music Friday and Sam Fender’s new album is out. The UK singer-songwriter’s new album is big, bold and was the best thing I listened to this week.

Sam Fender - People Watching
Back in 2019, I fell in love with the song “Hypersonic Missiles” by Sam Fender. In 2021, Fender’s song “Seventeen Going Under” was another banger. Now in 2025, Fender’s matured his sound and his songwriting focusing on the heart of the working class struggle. It’s a more focused sound this time around. “Chin Up” touches on the current cost of living crisis while “People Watching”, the title track, reflects on a woman Fender describes as his surrogate mother. Fender clearly doesn’t shy away from the Springsteen influence, but he adds enough pop elements to make it his own. The closer, “Remember My Name” is stunning with Fender taking the perspective of his grandfather while looking for his grandmother who was battling dementia. Each song is a story and you feel a part of it, through each word and each note.
