New Music Friday (9/4/2020)

It’s the first New Music Friday of September (seriously – how are we in September already) and I discovered some great new tunes this week. I hope you find something to listen to this long weekend. Let’s get to it!

-Ozuna - a Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer, regarded as the "New King of Reggaeton". Check out the track “Del Mar”

-Big Sean – The American rapper, singer, songwriter is back with his 5th official album. Check out the track “Harder Than My Demons”

-Lang Lang – The incredible Chinese concert pianist has released an amazing collection of J.S. Bach compositions. Check out track: “Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 – Variatio 1 a 1 Clav.”

-Josiah Johnson – Former member of The Head and the Heart releases his debut album today. Check out the track “Nobody Knows”

-Tricky – His 14th solo album explores the dark aftermath of his daughter's death and it’s spectacular. Check out the track “Fall Please”

-Carolina Story – The sophomore release featuring the gorgeous harmonies of husband and wife duo Ben and Emily Roberts. Check out the track “Time Well Spent”

-Bill Callahan – The lo-fi singer-songwriter is back with his 21st album! It’s one of the more accessible releases he’s put out. Check out the track “Another Song”

-Emily Barker – The Australian singer-songwriter fits nicely into the Americana movement, along with a little Beth Orton thrown in. Check out the track “The Woman Who Planted Trees”

-New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers – A “hardcore blues” supergroup has released an album that’s porch sittin’, whiskey drinkin’ perfect. Check out the track “Pony Blues”

-Grant-Lee Phillips – I saw his former band Grant Lee Buffalo open for R.E.M. years ago. His solo work continues to impress. Check out the track “Ain’t Done Yet”

-Bill Ocean – Yes…Billy Ocean! The 70-year old’s first release in a decade is full of uplifting tunes. Check out the track “Love You More”

Today’s featured artist is All Them Witches.

The rock band out of Nashville combines hard rock with some psychedelic blues to create a strong set of songs on their latest. Recorded at Abbey Road studios, there’s pinches of Zeppelin, Metallica and yes, Pink Floyd. It’s a trippy kinda beautiful mess and it’s a refreshing balance of hard/soft/long to short moments of music.

Give All Them Witches a spin today and if you feel so inclined, leave me a message on what you think of them.
