Welcome back my friends…to another New Music Friday! Let’s jump right in and find you something good. Check out new music from the following artists:
- Alicia Keys – I love her voice and her style and she’s back (after some delay) with a brilliant new record. Check out the track “Underdog”
- Jealous of the Birds – The indie-project from Naomi Hamilton toes the line between folk and rock for a pleasant surprise. Check out the track “Shiloh Chandra”
- Sly5thAve - Multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger and composer Sylvester Uzoma Onyejiaka II shapes his music with touches of hip hop, soul, R&B and jazz. Check out the track: “C-Side”
- Steve Arrington – A triumphant return from the funk legend which I’d have spinning on my turntable any day of the week. Check out the track: “Work On It”
- Tyler Childers – The singer-songwriter perfectly combines country, bluegrass and folk on his new release. Check out the track: “Jenny Lynn”
- Cults – The 5th album from the indie-pop band is dreamy and gorgeous. Check out the track: “8th Avenue”
- Keith Urban – The country superstar is back with another release of strong sounds. Check out the track: “Change Your Mind”
- Daniel Romano – The Canadian singer and poet combines blues with folk-rock for a rollicking release. Check out the track: “Green-Eye Shade”
- Eastwood – I’m digging the licks on this debut release from the band fronted by Knocked Loose guitarist Cole Crutchfield. Check out the rocking track: “Two Dollar Hamm’s”
- Ziggy Marley – The reggae legend is back with a sing-along album of great, sunny tunes. Check out the track: “Jambo”
- Semisonic – Don’t sleep on the new one from this great band. Dan Wilson writes perfect songs. Check out the track: “You’re Not Alone”
- Joan Osborne – Such a gifted voice – can just kill it! Back with some funky, soulful tunes. Check out the track: “Never Get Tired (Of Loving You)”
Today’s featured artist is Anjimile. The Boston-based artist’s release is a warm, beautiful album of many styles written mostly while in treatment for alcoholism and while coming to terms with their identity as a trans and nonbinary person. I hear influences from Sufjan Stevens to Roberta Flack. Anjimile has produced one of my favorite albums this year.
