It’s New Music Friday – Time for the Picks of the Week – a song and an album that have caught my attention and something I think you’ll want to listen to this weekend. So let’s get to it…
Today’s featured single is “Valentine” by Snail Mail
The first single off her upcoming release, Lindsey Jordan—who became an indie rock phenom after she released her debut album, Lush, at 18—spent time at a recovery facility. There she charted out arrangements for what would be her upcoming second album. It’s emotional and soaring and shows great maturing in her writing but also her vocals which are stronger than her previous work.
Today’s featured album is Montero by Lil Nas X
It’s hard to believe, but this is actually the debut album from Lil Nas X – and it’s well worth the wait. It’s a re-introduction to the R&B and rap star. Bouncing in between rhythms and genres and brimming with major collaborations (Elton John, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus), it’s Lil Nas X who shines the brightest. His delivery is smooth and fresh, bouncing between honest rap and beautiful vocals. The emotional range is wide and each track has something special within the three or so minutes. It’s tough to pick a favorite sad song, but check out “That’s What I Want”.
