It’s New Music Friday – Time for the Picks of the Week – a song and an album that have caught my attention and something I think you’ll want to listen to this weekend. So let’s get to it…
Today’s featured single is “Old Soul” by JudyAnne Jackson
This 13-year-old singer/songwriter from Tampa, Florida is ready to take the country world by storm. The new single, recorded in Nashville, is a beautiful song paying respect to the classic country sounds. Her voice is mature beyond her years and I’m so excited to hear more from Jackson in the future.
Today’s featured album is Star-Crossed by Kacey Musgraves
Break-up albums are nothing new. On her new one, Musgraves has never sounded more vulnerable with her songwriting. The album is billed as a “tragedy in three parts” and comes on the heels of her 2018 album Golden Hour which was inspired by the glow of a happy relationship. She’s taken a turn to the pop world of music that was slowly creeping into her last album, but the country roots are clearly still there though. Her turn on words in her lyrics remain sharp and clever, even in sadness. It’s tough to pick a favorite sad song, but check out “Camera Roll” and have a box of tissues with you.
