New Music Friday (10/9/2020)

“There are three parts to the creative process. First there is inspiration, then there is the execution, and finally there is the release” – Eddie Van Halen

Welcome to the latest installment of New Music Friday. Let’s find you all something good to enjoy this upcoming weekend.

Check out new music from the following:

- Brothers Osborne – The new one from the country duo delivers a swagger southern rock sound. Check out the track “All The Good Ones Are”

- Trey Songz – The rapper/R&B artist is out with a new album (the same week he tested positive for COVID-19) of smooth tracks that shine the light on his crooning voice. Check out the track “Circles”

- Future Islands – The fantastic synthpop Baltimore band’s 6th album is full of beautiful music/lyrics. Check out the track “For Sure”

- The Budos Band – The Staten Island instrumental band returns with more funky jams that are perfect for a morning walk to get your blood flowing. Check out the track “Silver Stallion”

- Carla Bruni – The spouse of the President of France has a delicate, stunning voice that shines on her new release. Check out the track “Un secret”

- METZ – Then on the other spectrum, the Toronto trio rip through 10 sonic tracks with blistering rage. Check out the track “Blind Youth Industrial Park”

- The Goodbye Party – The Philly power-pop band band gently sways through their new release with head bopping tunes. Check out the track “No Reason”

- Cut Worms – Picture walking into a road-side country bar, there’s a band on stage that catches your ear as you down a shot and beer. That’s Cut Worms. Check out the track “All The Roads”

- Ron Miles – The jazz trumpeter’s debut on Blue Note Records is perfect Sunday morning kick-around music. Check out the track “This Old Man”

- Travis – One of my favorites deliver a wistful, safe indie release with dreamy guitar and piano led tunes (along with a great guest appearance from Susanna Hoffs). Check out the track “A Ghost”

- Yo La Tengo – The indie band formed all the way back in 1984 is back with a covers EP. Check out the track “Smile a Little Smile for Me”

Today’s featured artist is a new to me – Emmy the Great.

The singer-songwriter, born in Hong Kong to an English father and a Chinese mother, went back to her roots for her fourth album. Taking inspiration from her 2017 trip back to Hong Kong (where she lived until the age of 12), her lyrics focus more on her own life and her relationship with her homeland, rather than relationships with a significant other. The tunes are primarily folk-pop with gorgeous vocals.
