New Music Friday - 10/15/21

Welcome to New Music Friday and my picks of the week – a song and an album that have caught my attention and something I think you’ll want to listen to this weekend. Here’s what’s good…

Today’s featured single is “Easy On Me” by Adele

Another classic from the British singer. Pouring her honesty into songs has always been a staple of her songs. The new song is no exception. Charting aspects of her relationship and subsequent divorce, the lyrics, laid over gorgeous piano and strings, are brutal and courageous at the same time, with a hint of optimism. The song shows great strength and maturity and reminds me how much I love Adele’s voice.

Today’s featured album is Georgia Blue by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

Back in November 2020, Isbell promised to record a cover album of songs from Georgia-born artists if the electoral results from the Peach State came out in favor of Democrat Joe Biden, or, in the parlance of political pundits, went from red to blue. Covering a wide variety of genres, hitting on ’80s and ’90s alternative, ’60s and ’70s soul, blues, folk, and Southern rock, Isbell and his band are joined by some amazing guests (Brandi Carlile and Bela Fleck just to name a few) – all who make this cover album something even more special. Highlights include covers of songs by Otis Redding, The Black Crowes, Allman Brothers Band and Indigo Girls. Check out his cover of “Driver 8” by R.E.M.
