This week, New Music Friday is featuring a wide variety of artists and styles. I’m excited to highlight music from artists I’ve liked for years and new artists I’m just discovering. Check out new releases from the following artists:
- Rhye - Michael Milosh’s third full length release is a lush, sexy dance party. His warm falsetto drifts over each note and beat easily, drawing you in. Check out the track “Safeword”
- Justin Moses - One of the finest multi-instrumentalists in acoustic music, Moses pickin’ and songwriting are on full display. It’s a beautifully produced album worthy of adding to your playlist. Check out the track “Between the Lightning and the Thunder”
- Typhoon – A surprise release from the Portland, Oregon band. Full of the dreamy, atmospheric sounds that have made them an indie favorite. Fans of Fleet Foxes and Frightened Rabbit should check Typhoon out. Check out the track “And so What If You Were Right”
- Palberta – The New York art-rock trio produced a cool, quirky but tight set of songs on their latest. They’re the type of band that 20-something Dave would have loved to have seen at The Knitting Factory in NYC. Check out the track “In Again”
- Willie Jones – The debut from Jones is a brilliant mix of country, hip-hop and feel good R&B. Jones goal for the listener is pretty simple, “to embrace the urgency of being in the moment.” Check out the track “American Dream”
- Erik the Architect – The rapper (founding member of Flatbush Zombies) delivers a solid solo EP filled with cool samples and smooth beats. Check out the track “Die 4 U”

Emcee Pharoahe Monch’s new all-star group combines socially conscious lyrics with a melding of rock and rap (that’s Jack White’s drummer Daru Jones you hear). Monch’s rap is clear and precise, making you sit up and take notice to every word he spits out. His songs tell the fearless, in-your-face story of a world in need of awareness and change.
