It’s Throwback Thursday and we head back to 1984 when a 25-year old, up and coming pop singer made her debut on American Bandstand.
Madonna performed "Holiday" and was there to promote her self-titled debut, which was released a few months earlier in the summer of 1983, but wasn’t this performance really about what she was about to do? Like A Virgin dropped later that same year, and with its release Madonna quickly became the most famous female singer on the planet.
Her appearance on American Bandstand wasn’t her first on television and Dick Clark certainly didn’t discover Madonna, but in 1984, any artist’s appearance on Bandstand was a thing. It showed the country who Madonna was – a bright, energetic, confident woman who loved performing.
And at the very end, Clark looks to the future in his question to Madonna…
"What do you hope will happen, not only in 1984 but for the rest of your professional life? What are your dreams? What's left?"
Her answer was epic…
“To rule the world”
