Born on this day in 1955, Steve Jones struggled early on in life, with over 14 criminal convictions to his name. He says that joining a band saved him from a life of crime.
That band was The Sex Pistols.
Musically gifted (not necessarily associated with the Pistols), Jones not only was a tight lead guitar player on all track, he also played bass on the recordings of "Bodies" and "Holidays in the Sun" (due to how good he was and Sid Vicious' musical incompetence).
I love the song "Holidays in the Sun" as an underrated track from all the ones people are familiar with and for it's chord pattern (stolen/similar from The Jam's "In The City").
After the break-up of the Sex Pistols, Jones bounced around playing in various bands and with various artists including Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Bob Dylan and many others. He formed Neurotic Outsiders, that featured himself on guitar and vocals, former Guns N' Roses members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum on rhythm guitar and drums, and John Taylor from Duran Duran, on bass.
He released a few solo albums including the underrated debut Mercy in 1987.
