Do you need some new indie-pop? Meet Bellvie!

Formed in 2023, Sweden’s Bellvie came together in bits and pieces, adding members along the way. Guitarist Måns and bassist Axel go back to their school days, cutting their teeth in various bands before crossing paths with singer Johanna after seeing her in a school musical, a moment that made them realize her voice was exactly what their songs needed. Drummer John later reached out when the band was searching for the right fit behind the drums, and the lineup has been locked in ever since. The result is some of the most catchy music I’ve heard in a long time.
Ask Bellvie to describe their sound and they’ll give you three words: clean, loud, and emotional. It’s an apt summary for a band that bridges the nostalgic ‘90s sound while trying to sound as modern as possible. You can hear the shimmering melancholy of The Cardigans and the jangly dream-pop pulse of Alvvays, but there’s also a deep affection for ‘80s staples like The Blue Nile, China Crisis, and Roxy Music.
Their songwriting process starts simply: Måns records demos at home and brings them into rehearsal, where the band plays, tests, and refines until something clicks. Until recently, they’ve tried to stay close to the original demos, but recording at Tambourine Studios in Malmö has begun widening the creative gap between idea and finished track. Among their catalog, “The People” holds special weight as their first release — and a reliable live favorite — while “Be Mine” is the one they collectively see as their strongest work yet. I’m also very partial to the track “Feels So Far Away”. It takes me back to my college radio days.
With a second EP arriving this spring, mixing long-percolating songs with newer studio-born material, Bellvie sounds poised to expand their palette even further and we’ll be the ones to benefit.
