I got to thinking this past weekend, when I heard the song “Los Angeles” by HAIM about songs with cities in their title. Clearly, we needed a mixtape for this category. Research on this was overwhelming – What to choose, what to leave out? Do I stay domestic or can I go overseas?
Let’s travel the word – Cities have been represented in songs for years. Music journalist and author Nick Coleman has gone as far as to say that apart from love, "pop is better on cities than anything else."
Here it is – We Built This City Mixtape - Since we’re now getting back to traveling, maybe the songs will inspire you to travel somewhere, domestically or internationally. Throw this mixtape on when you’re traveling and you’ll be set for over two hours! The tracks were picked from favorites and songs I hadn’t thought of in a while. Classics like “Wichita Lineman” by Glen Campbell and lesser known songs like “Baltimore’s Fireflies” by Woodkid.
Hope you find something you like and if you’ve got a favorite I’ve missed, leave a note in the comments.
