I was stunned to read the very sad news tonight about the death of singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle. He was only 38 years old.
Earle was the son of the legendary Steve Earle, who named him after Townes Van Zant.
He was a troubadour of great talent who performed early on with his dad and then when he started his solo career worked with such great talent as Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings.
His songs were truthful, painful and beautiful. He mixed genres of country, blues and folk seamlessly. He put out nine great albums, the last, "The Saint of Lost Causes" was released in 2019.
My favorite was the 2010 release "Harlem River Blues" which had such great tracks as "One More Night in Brooklyn", "Learning to Cry" and the title track.
