Music From the DMV - The Sebastions

Hailing from Alexandria, Virginia, The Sebastions are the first band to be highlighted on my blog’s new category – Music From the DMV.

Band frontman Joey Yusician recorded and released the band’s Here for Now EP in March, 2021. He then recruited and has been working with Peter, Patrick, Steve, and Corron to prepare to perform the band’s material in the greater DC area.

A wall of guitar fuzz greets you on the opening track of their album “Here For Now” and it’s a great sign of things to come. It’s post-punk sound is a throwback to what I listened to back in college and pays spectacular tribute to bands like The Fall, Velvet Underground and local heroes Fugazi.

Joey recorded with (and was highly influenced with at the time) Kendall Street Company, a jam-alt rock band based out of Charlottesville, Virginia before finding his current band mates. When it comes to songwriting, Yusician focuses on finding chords, riffs, and drumbeats that work well together and then he adds lyrics to fit the music.

My favorite tracks are “Love” and “Peregrine”.

They’ve been playing at open mics around the region including gigs at Madam’s Organ, O’Shaughnessy’s Pub, and Epicure Café. Be sure to check them out at one of these upcoming gigs:
