I took the weekend to review my blog posts, especially around the ones for New Music Friday and realized I was missing out on sharing a lot of new tunes.
New Music Friday has focused on full albums releases, and that'll continue - There are clearly tracks that are being released by artists pre-album. So that's where Monday Mixer - Singles Only comes in to play.
Let's dive into some tunes that were released recently that you should know:
- Valerie June - Stay - It's been about four years since we had new music from June, one of my favorite singers. Check out this gorgeous country-soul song produced by Jack Splash (Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys). Just a preview of new music to come from June in 2021.
- Matthew Sweet - At A Loss - The power pop superstar returns with the first single of his upcoming January album release. The dark rock track has Sweet tackling all the production and instruments (minus drums from Ric Menck) and fits perfectly into his catalog of songs.
- Michael Penn - A Revival - It's been 15 years since Penn released his last proper album. In between he scored movies for two Paul Thomas Anderson films and other movies and shows). Penn has always delivered beautifully crafted pop songs that are lush and sophisticated always with great hooks.
- Billie Eilish - Therefore I Am - The Eilish pulsing beat is back on this brushoff attitude song and is a welcome addition to her pretty great catalog of songs.
- Foo Fighters - Shame Shame - Showing a little bit funkier side to their music, the Foos are back with the first song off their upcoming release. It's a nice change to what I thought was becoming very similar sounding albums.
