It's Your Day Jennifer

I love odd and quirky holidays. And I love my wife. Where am I going with this? Well, today, May 30th is National Jennifer Day. A little Jennifer knowledge for you before we get to it - My wife’s parents were inspired by the song “Jenny Rebecca” by Barbara Streisand - So that’s what they went with for her name. Now, let’s celebrate all the Jennifer/Jenny/Jen’s that we know with my Jennifer Mixtape, a combo of songs that contain the name Jennifer/Jenny/Jen.

We’ll start the mixtape with one of my favorites, “27 Jennifers” by Mike Doughty. It’s a catchy tune about “16 Jen’s, 10 Jenny’s and then there was her”. Who is the her? Jennifer I suppose.

Up next is “Jenifa Taught Me” by De La Soul. It’s a freewheeling, end-of-innocence tale done by the fantastic rap group off of their ridiculously good debut album 3 Feet High and Rising.

Later on, we get to Jennifer Lopez’s smash hit, “Jenny From The Block”. You can take the girl out of NYC, but you can’t take the NYC out of her. Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she’s got…You know the rest.

“Jenny Says” by Cowboy Mouth was one of those songs that I’ve heard a million times, but never could name the artist. The song was first released by Dash Rip Rock, but later re-recorded by Cowboy Mouth, and anyone who has seen them in concert knows that they traditionally close their shows with it.

Closing out the mixtape is “867-5309/Jenny” by Tommy Tutone. The catchy track hit number four on the Billboard Top 100. There are many stories about the origin of it - Is there a real Jenny? Was it a specific number for Jenny? How many crank calls did you make to that number?

So today, send your Jennifer/Jenny/Jen a message of appreciation and love and listen to the Jennifer Mixtape to appreciate all the ways singers and songwriters have shown their love for them as well.
